The modern fleet of Washington State Ferries had its beginnings in an eclectic group of wood and steel ferries.  Many of them had served under different names on San Francisco Bay, others had been built in in the Seattle area and had been sailing Puget Sound for years.  Nearly all of these ferries are merely a memory now, but remarkably some still survive.
As Washington State Ferries modernizes its fleet, a new round of familiar names have been added to the list, taking their place among long forgotten vessels.
